AKC Champion Retired Yorkshire Terriers Carefully Placed by Essence of Grace Yorkies

AKC Champion retired Yorkshire Terrier resting at home in Southern California

At Essence of Grace Yorkies, we occasionally have a retired adult Yorkshire Terrier available for placement after completing her time in our breeding and show program. These dogs are not rescues and are not retired due to neglect—they were raised in our home, deeply loved, and thoughtfully cared for from birth or import.

Our retired adults are placed only when the timing is right, allowing them to transition into a calm, loving forever home where they can enjoy one-on-one attention and a relaxed lifestyle.

Families looking specifically for a retired adult Yorkshire Terrier often wait months or longer for the right opportunity.

Why Consider a Retired Adult Yorkshire Terrier?

Adult Yorkshire Terrier enjoying a calm, social lifestyle with owner

Welcoming a retired adult Yorkie into your home is a wonderful alternative to starting with a puppy. Retired adults offer many advantages, including:

  • Established Training – Most are leash trained, crate trained, and either outdoor potty trained or pad trained

  • Calmer Temperaments – Adults are settled, predictable, and less demanding than puppies

  • Spay/Neuter & Dental Care Included – All retired adults are spayed or neutered and receive a professional dental cleaning before placement

  • Proven Temperament – You know exactly who they are, not who they might become

✨ A Different Way to Bring Home a Yorkie

Not every family is looking for a young puppy. Retired adults offer a unique opportunity to welcome a Yorkie who is already past the demanding puppy stage, with an established personality, training foundation, and calmer temperament.

Understanding Retired Adult Availability

Retired adult Yorkshire Terrier relaxing in a home environment

Retired adult Yorkshire Terriers require more flexibility with timing than puppies. While puppies (when available) are placed on a relatively predictable schedule, retired adults are placed only after they have fully completed their role in our program and have recovered physically and emotionally.

Our retired adults are typically four years of age or older. We do not retire young adults unless there is a specific medical or breeding-related reason that prevented them from being bred earlier. In an ethical breeding program, a young adult is generally still in her prime and not ready for retirement.

Families interested in a retired adult should be comfortable with:

  • Advance planning

  • Flexible timelines

  • Nature-dependent schedules (heat cycles, recovery, veterinary guidance)

A Rare & Infrequent Opportunity

We place retired adult Yorkshire Terriers very infrequently, often only once every few years. Availability depends on each dog’s health, recovery, and individual needs, and some placements may be reserved well in advance.

At this time, availability may be limited or reserved. Families interested in a retired adult are encouraged to submit an application to be considered for current or future opportunities.

Her retirement will take place once she has completed her planned breedings and has fully recovered physically and emotionally. As with all breeding decisions, timing is always dependent on Mother Nature, her cycles, and her overall well-being.There are two possible outcomes:

  • Planned Retirement Timeline:

    • Retirement will take place after her final litter is weaned and she has fully recovered
