How Our Waitlist Works
At Essence of Grace Yorkies, we’re committed to improving the breed and continuing the quality of our program. To ensure the future of our breeding program, I sometimes retain a puppy for myself, particularly when the litter includes a promising puppy that I believe will make a strong contribution to my line. In these cases, I always reserve the right to first pick before puppies are placed with families on the waitlist. We do not require a deposit to join our waitlist, and your place on the list is determined by the following factors:
Application Date: Earlier applications receive higher priority, but…
Gender Preference: Gender preference also plays a significant role. If the puppies available do not match your preference, others who applied later but requested that gender will be prioritized.
To give you an idea of how this works, in a recent litter, I had two families on my waitlist, both wanting a female puppy. The first family had been waiting almost a year, and they were eager to select their puppy as soon as the litter arrived. However, the second family, who joined the waitlist later, was looking for a female puppy specifically for showing and breeding. Since the first family wasn’t interested in showing, I informed them that I would need to evaluate the puppies first to determine which one had show potential.
Throughout the process, I shared updates and photos with the first family, and although I had an idea of which puppy would be best for them, I waited until the puppies were fully evaluated at 8 weeks. In the end, I was able to match the show-quality puppy with the second family and place the other beautiful puppy in the first family’s loving home.
This example highlights our commitment to ensuring every family gets a puppy that is the best fit for them, while also honoring the specific qualities and potential of each puppy.
Example 1: If you're first on the list but want a girl, and the litter consists of boys, someone who applied after you but wants a boy will move ahead of you for that litter.
Example 2: If you want a boy and the litter only has girls, your place on the waitlist remains, but others who applied later and prefer girls will have the opportunity to choose first.
Example 3: In one of my recent litters, we had just one female puppy and several males. I had a family on the waitlist who had been hoping for a female, but because I always evaluate the puppies for their potential within my breeding program, I needed time to decide whether I would keep the only female in the litter. This meant that the family had to wait until I made my decision before being able to select a puppy.
